This qualification reflects the role of remedial massage therapists who work with clients presenting with soft tissue dysfunction, musculoskeletal imbalance or restriction in range of motion (ROM). Therapists may be self-employed or work within a larger health service. To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 200 hours of work in a simulated clinical environment as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency. The skills in this qualification must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State or Territory legislation, Australian standards and industry codes of practice. No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to thi s qualification at the time of publication.

- Be a minimum of 18 years of age.
- Undertake a pre-enrolment interview / initial skill assessment.
- Must have completed Australian Year 12 or equivalent level of schooling or a Certificate IV or higher qualification with an Australian institution.

Students will need to successfully complete all units in this course to receive a certificate of HLT52021– Diploma of Remedial Massage.
Learners who partially complete the qualification will receive a Statement of Attainment for the units they are deemed competent.
Assessment will occur through a variety of methods, including projects incorporating role-plays, case studies, observations, and short answer questions.
Assessment tasks may include:
- Reflect real life work tasks
- performing industry safety requirements
- Practical observation assessments the end of each term as skills developed and perfected through the whole of each term
- Completion of a logbook portfolio of 200 hours plus
Potential employment options are in a range of massage therapy roles in a range of industry areas such as:
• Remedial massage therapist within a clinic setting.
• Massage therapist within the day spa industry
• Self-employment working on clients and building their own business.
• Mobile remedial massage therapy
• Working within a natural therapy clinic as the remedial massage therapist preparing and warming the soft tissue for a chiropractor,physiotherapist or physical therapists,
• Employment within gyms and fitness centres as the resident remedial massage therapist
RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING RPL/ CREDIT TRANSFER
AIS recognises qualifications issued by other RTOs. AIS will accept and mutually recognise the qualifications and Statements of Attainment awarded by any other registered training organisation unless precluded by licensing requirements. We can also grant you Credit Transfer for subjects or units you have completed where equivalence can be established between the unit in your course, and the subject or unit you have completed.
Students who complete this course may wish to continue their education into a range of Diploma or Advanced Diploma qualifications in allied health and wellness areas, Business or Salon Management.Some graduates may follow a higher education learning pathway into areas such as Physiotherapy, Chiropractic studies, Nutrition, Naturopathy, Herbalism and other related para-medical and human movement areas.
